April 1 Morgan Hill • AAUW-MH Wildflower Run 5K/10K/& 2K Kid’s run. See the Feature Story in this month’s issue in Lore of Running April 7 San Jose • King Richard Annual 5K/10K/Half Marathon, 8:45am. Santa Teresa County Park, 260 Bernal Rd. San Jose. 13.1 miles: 50% dirt roads, 50% single track;very hilly, awesome country, challenging with technical sections and rocky sections. 10k : 75% dirt roads, 25% single track; very hilly, steep climbs, tough course, lots of great runnable sec- tions. 5k: 100% dirt road, very hilly, steep climbs, tough course, very rewarding, great downhill run to the finish.


April 14 San Jose • Mercury Mine 7K/12K/18K Trail Run, 9:00am. Almaden Quicksilver Park (Mockingbird Hill Lane Entrance) Mockingbird Hill Lane San Jose. Great course for new and experi- enced trail runners. Run, walk, or hike the course which features just a mix of wide trails and single track. Lots of elevation gain in the beginning and then rollers and some nice downhill towards the end.


April 14 Santa Cruz • 12th Annual Santa Cruz Slug Run, 8:00am. Kid’s Fun


Run, 5K/10K. UC Santa Cruz, 1156 High Street. The 12th annual Slug Run begins and ends with a beauti- ful view of the Monterey Bay on a challenging course into the red- wood forest of UC Santa Cruz.


April 28 Los Gatos • Sierra Azul Challenge Run, 5K/10K/18.8 miles/50K, Sierra Azul. Run in the shadow of Mt. Umunhum with the deer and a few of your favorite running pals. Set in the Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve, this one of a kind non- timed running event provides unique access to gorgeous trails and scenery not commonly viewed. 100% trail/fire road. The half- marathon challenge course has plenty of steep climbs and exposure to make sure you get a fantastic workout. The 10K course is extremely runnable. April 28 Woodside • Grizzly Ryder 10K, 17K, 35K Trail Run. Huddart Park (Zwierlein Picnic Area), 1100 Kings Mountain Road. Great course for new and experienced trail runners. Run, walk, or hike the course which features just a mix of wide trails and single track. Lots of ele- vation gain in the beginning and then rollers and some nice downhill towards the end.
