20 QUESTIONS

1 How did you get into your current job?
I took A level law part time at Nash Technical College then took a law degree and decided to go into a career in law. I managed to get articles at TS Edwards & Co, Newport who, at the times, was one of the oldest and most respected practices in Monmouthshire.
2 What’s the best bit?
Not knowing what will come through the door such as the mundane duty solicitor call which resulted in me taking statements in the hills of Jamaica.
3 What was your fi rst Saturday job? Salesman at John Temple, the tailors in Newport. 4 Describe your ideal job Marine biologist studying whales. 5 What motivates you?
Helping people to the best of my ability no matter what their circumstances. 6 What irritates you?
I am affectionately known as Victor Meldrew – take from this what you will but I am mellowing as I get older.
7 Who do you most admire in business and why?
The management of Greggs – always opening new shops, quality products, good service and always a queue at their door. I think they should run the country. Also Sir Terry Matthews, he built my golf course. He brought us the Ryder Cup and put my home town (city) on the map.
8 What was the last book you read and what did you think?
Game of Thrones – absolutely enthralling fantasy. 9 What do you do to relax? Playing golf. 10 What dreams are you still to fulfi ll?
I often dream I can fl y but every morning I still have to take the car. 11 What was the last fi lm you saw at the cinema? The War Horse – a pile of horse...! 12 Favourite food and place to eat it? Chinese food at a Chinese restaurant. 13 What car do you drive?

A 10 year old BMW convertible. It’s done 114,000 miles but I have done them all. It’s a member of the family now so I wouldn’t be without it.
14 What’s in your car’s CD player at the moment?
See 13 above! CD jammed but from memory Woody Guthrie, Johnny Cash and Gretchan Peters as well as Alison Kraus.
15 What’s your favourite TV programme? The West Wing.
16 Do you tweet? If so, can we follow you? If not, why?
No the concept escapes me. I always think it is pretentious. 17 If you were an animal what would you be? Eric Burden. 18 Proudest moment?
Having the children is a given. I think obtaining my law degree after such a long journey of part time study and family sacrifi ces.
19 And most embarrassing?
Happens a few times a week, getting mistaken for George Clooney and having my coffee pinched.
20 What advice would you give too someone wanting to be successful in your line of work? Choose another line of work.
