Mass Effect 3 M

6 7 Bioware – out now for 360, PS3 and PC

ass Effect 3 is the fi nal part of the epic sci-fi triology which sees you resume control of commander Shepard in the fi ght against the terrifying Reaper

threat. A combination of RPG-style play coupled with outstanding

action gameplay (better than most dedicated action games), brilliant story and well-drawn characters make this every bit as good and more as the games that have preceeded it. The story sees you preparing for all out war with the

aformentioned Reapers who represent a threat to all creatures and races in the know universe. Whereas in previous games various races would hold grudges against each other over past confl icts, the theme now rests with achieving a sort of unity that’s necessary for the survival of all races and species, in short, everybody needs eachother to survive. The Repears are scary creatures and the opening brutal attack on Earth sets a very grim tone for the game and the struggles you face. Mass Effect 2 saw tweaks and gameplay overhauls that

improved the whole experience from Mass Effect, and Mass Effect 3 yet again raises the bar, although there are some areas where slowdown occurs (when action gets particularly heavy) and the odd piece of texture pop in, it’s never enough to detract from the whole experience and the illusion of an epic space adventure is never broken. A notable addition to this installment is the inclusion of

multiplayer – while there are competitive online modes, there is also a co-op campaign that follows a different path to the main story. Personally I don’t think a game like Mass Effect needs multiplayer but it’s nice to have the option there. As the trilogy draws to a close and the story ultimately

reaches it’s epic climax you can’t help being drawn in by it all. From the stunning graphics, score, gameplay and fantastically realised sci-fi world, the whole thing oozes class.
