Results of the Hallamshire Riding Society Showjumping & Games

19th February 2012

This show was the busiest held by the Hallamshire Riding Society so far this year with several

Sophie Rodgers & Blue

classes having 15 or more in them. The first class was the Pairs over cross poles, which was entered by almost everyone on the showground at the time. The standard was high and any knock downs moved entries well down the placings. Sara Tehrani and Mirelle Radley won the class for the second time this year and are definitely the ones to beat. The 55cm class was for nervous and novice competitors only - it provided some smiley faces from riders that might not usually place in showjumping which was lovely to see. The entire show took a break to sing a slightly late happy birthday to our fantastic steward Beth Wickstone complete with a birthday cake with candles and about 20 horses and riders in the ring with her. From the 65cm upwards clears were very rare and

pony Corky who managed some of the few clears. Amy Smith also did very well with Ben as this was her first showjumping competition for a long time due to a knee injury and she made a very good comeback indeed. Some newcomers to the pony ranks were Ellie Thorpe and Beth’s welsh mountain pony Melody and Alex Green on Moo the coloured. Finally, the 6 girls from Border View Farm on borrowed ponies did extremely well in the lower heights considering that they’re not their own ponies and they hack for over an hour just to come to the shows. They now have matching hoodies which makes them easy to spot and for great team spirit! Following from the 85cm was the Horse and Hound class which meant that dogs were suddenly

combinations were sorted by the very twisty tracks set in the jump offs, with some very daring U-turns bring needed to do well! Some notable riders were Mirelle Radley, who then went on to do just as well riding Sara’s horse Macbeth, the ever consistent Rhiannon Pedley and her brilliant grey mare Alice and Megan Heeley and her

in demand. The ponies jumped pretty well but I don’t think the same could be said for most of the dogs! The remaining riders were split into two groups of three meaning that each gymkhana race was run twice. For the tomato race 2 tomatoes had to be moved by the riders from one end of the school to the other, and the best technique was to carry it in your mouth but not many people braved that! For there and back the combinations had to ride there and then a helper would hold their horse whilst the riders took a turn at racing on foot. The gymkhana games were dominated by the greys Gaillard Alice and Sophie Rodgers’ Blue. Overall everyone seemed to have a brilliant day and it was lovely to see some regulars and some new faces too. Special thanks goes to secretary Alison
