REMODELORS COUNCIL NEWS

RMC Garners Attention from the Public and Industry Peers

more help we have, the less each individual has to contribute. Volunteer organizations are only as productive and strong as the members who serve. With the group we have signed up thus far, it appears we will have a grand year. It is not too late to sign up if you have not already.

I

We are experiencing record attendance not only at the luncheons, but also at the networking events this year. This is due in large part to the great efforts of past leaders coupled with the state of the economy. Let’s capitalize on this attention, and use this opportunity to educate the public and our peers, (those who are not members YET) on why it is so important to hire a professional remodeler or an associate of the Remodelors Council for their projects. There are a number of fly-by-night contractors and vendors who may only be around for the short term. As members, we convey that we are here to stay as contributing members of the community. We do this by staying involved in continuing education, keeping abreast of current government (local and federal) regulations, organizing and executing charity projects, along with numerous other attributes.

The RMC’s February luncheon featured members from the City of Houston Permit office who graciously answered questions pertaining to new regulations, how to make the permitting experience work more smoothly, and what to do if you run into a problem.

The council’s March luncheon, “Consciously Connecting and Communicating for a Greater

would like to thank all the RMC members who have signed up to serve on a committee. The

Good” presented by Donna Fisher, promises to not only be enlightening but also show us how to be more productive and up to date with our limited time as professionals running a business in today’s marketplace. Our luncheon sponsor will be Roy O. Martin and our tabletop sponsors will be Masonry Glass Systems and Pella.

Other items to discuss pertain to education. Hopefully all of you will obtain your designations as well as maintain them by taking advantage of GHBA’s local education classes. The GHBA board of directors has committed to not cancelling any planned courses this year; I understand that may have been an issue in past. We have some of the best instructors in the nation. In fact, our very own Dan Bawden of Legal Eagle Contractors was named Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist Co-Educator of the Year at the 2012 International Builders Show, along with many other greats. Be sure to sign yourself and your staff up for these upcoming classes.

I would also like to give a big thanks to Bill Carter of Bison who is doing a terrific job of organizing the home shows. Bill exemplifies what it means to chair a committee, plan, execute and rally the troops to get things done. Bill has done three events already this year. That means our council has been promoted to the general public and to future council members as well. Great job!

I cannot thank all of you enough for all your efforts so far this year. The board members as well as the staff of the GHBA have and continue to be a gift, and I thank each and every one of you. Your efforts certainly show.
