CONSTRUCTION TO BEGIN ON $3.8 MILLION HOMEAID PROJECT

A tough economy has not deterred team members from HomeAid Houston, Camden Builders and Volunteers of America (VOA) who are on track to begin construction of a 30,000 sq. ft. facility that will soon be home to 150 women and children in crisis. The project, named Restoration Hill, sits on a four-acre site just north of downtown Houston. HomeAid, a GHBA charity, is partnering with Camden Builders and VOA to construct this $3.8 million project. Construction is expected to begin in March.

In addition to providing 150 beds, Restoration Hill will provide child care, classrooms, a clinician’s space, meeting rooms and administrative offices.

VOA initially began in 1896 as an offshoot of the Salvation Army. VOA Texas Inc. has been serving Houstonians for 100 years. Its mission is: "Serving individuals in need, strengthening families and building communities." They help individuals, families and communities overcome the barriers of poverty and circumstance and to reach their full potential.

“We cannot wait to break ground on this exciting HomeAid project,” said Elizabeth Bryson, assistant project manager of construction for Camden. “We have finalized the construction permits. Even in a slow economy, we’ve gotten a broad range of generous donations including mechanical, engineering and plumbing design by Jordan & Skala Engineers, structural design by SCA Consulting Engineers, and we have gotten a great response on the material.”

Camden Property Trust is an S&P 400 Company. As one of the largest multifamily real estate investment trusts (REITs) in the nation, Camden specializes in several disciplines within the residential real estate industry. They provide expertise in the ownership, development and management of apartment home communities; in the acquisition, disposition and redevelopment of properties; and in consulting, building and construction services for third party clients.

“Camden brings a superior level of professionalism and commitment to this huge HomeAid project,” said Mark Welch, board president. “The vendors also share that commitment. Their generosity will make a difference in so many lives of those less fortunate.”
