requirements in mind, Sell developed a new generation of inserts, including ovens, coffee maker, beverage maker, water boiler and bun warmer. The challenge was to combine form and function, delivering an attractive and elegant outer appearance and also incorporating the increased functionalities required by airlines today. There is a clear focus on weight, which naturally leads to savings in fuel costs for operators. Maximising safety within the framework of the improved styling is also a given.

Innovative IFE solution based on WiFi technology


No matter where they are these days, people expect to be able to use entertainment services such as a range of music, video on demand, games and Internet access. Until now, on board many aircraft there has been only limited access to such services. The innovative BoardConnect IFE solution from Lufthansa Systems is not only more cost efficient than traditional IFE solutions but also offers new possibilities for on-board communication. Condor and Virgin America are the first airlines to implement BoardConnect. The innovative system is based on a WiFi network which passengers can log on to through seat-back screens or their own WiFi- enabled devices to access a wide range of content. While the installation of conventional IFE systems requires an extensive downtime of the aircraft, BoardConnect can be fitted during routine overnight layovers or maintenance checks.


Moving forward, not only in the cabin


ZIM FLUGSITZ will present its new business class seat BC-01 for short, medium and long-haul flights with new kinematics, many customisable features and multi material design for weight savings. ZIM FLUGSITZ’s strength in innovative engineering is realised through the kinematic for passenger comfort without electrical assistance. In addition the focus for this development is to maximise passenger possibilities for personnel amenities combined with a design for a high value technically innovative impression. The product fulfils the new DOT requirement for handicapped passengers and allows easy egress to the aisle even when the meal table is deployed. ZIM FLUGSITZ will also


present its successful lightweight Economy-Class seats based on ECO-01. The modular economy class seat ECO-01, which was delivered for 7 airlines and has additional orders for 4 airlines, covers the demand for short, medium and long-haul flights and includes a lightweight basic economy class seat without recline up to a fully equipped customised premium economy class seat with several options like seat pan articulation, 6 way head-rest, footrest, cup holder, coat hook, easy slidable meal table and customer options. Due to the modular design of the primary structure, short lead times are ensured. The present seat production is on schedule so that ZIM will achieve the planned increase of PAX production in 2012.


Clean, disinfect and deodorise


Ensuring the best possible environment for passengers and crew is always important, and the enclosed, high traffic aircraft environment is a particular challenge.
