fy for the 2013 Novice Championship Shows.

We have some news that was sent to us on the Novice Championships from the AQHA. AQHA recently announced the classes that will be offered at the inaugural AQHA nation- al Novice championship shows, which will be held October 5-7 in Murfrees- boro, Tennessee, and Las Vegas. Also, state qualifying methods for the Novice championships have been determined. Novice amateur and Novice youth competitors may qualify for the Novice championships in the following classes: Barrel racing, Pole bending, Stake race(see below for OQHA info on qualifying for these classes here in Ontario), Halter: year- ling, 2-year-old, 3-year-old, aged and performance halter geldings and mares, Showmanship, Horsemanship, Hunt seat equitation, Western pleasure, Hunter under saddle, Trail, Western riding and Reining.

Several opportunities exist for Novice competitors to qualify for the Novice Championship Show Weekend. OQHA clarified OQHA Provincial Qualifications for the AQHA Novice Youth and Amateur Championship Shows. The top 3 Ontario Quarter Horse members in the Point Standings up until June 30, 2012 will qualify for the 2012 AQHA Novice Championship Shows. Shows after June 30 will quali-

At least some of the AQHA Shows in Ontario will offer Novice, Youth and Novice Amateur Barrels and Pole Bending. This includes the Teen Ranch Quarter Horse Shows, June. A complete list will be available shortly. The Ontario Rules will be posted on the AQHA website (www.aqha.com) shortly. If any more information is needed, please contact Ken McLellan, at 519-289-5526. You could always check the information on the Ontario Quarter Horse site (www.oqha.on.ca) for shows and list of classes to see if they include Poles, Barrels and Stake qualifying classes. This could be a very good thing for all our quarterhorses, who wouldn’t want to be the Inaugural Champion? Those points would look great on your horse’s pedigree.

There is also a new organization out there, the National Pole Bending Association, based in the United States. One of our members Joanne Fisher is trying to get some of our shows sanctioned so that we may be able to have our members a greater chance to qualify for their finals, held in Liberty, Kentucky, at the Central Kentucky Ag and Expo Center June 29-July 1, 2012. You can check out this organization on their website www.polebending.org for more infor- mation, rules, and a membership form if you wish to participate. When we get more news on qualifying etc. we will be posting this and sending it out to the members.
