President’s Message

We are now well into the New Year, with our 2012 show schedule put together. We are delighted to see Knowlton Ridge in Powassan put on another show this year – the attendance last year was small, but those of us who went thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and the folks at Knowlton Ridge were great hosts. I encourage you all to try to make it to their show this year. Regrettably, Kemptville College is no longer able to host shows that are not con- nected to their educational programs. They also have research animals on site that can- not be put at risk.

Maureen Venables and her crew have always done a fantastic job with this show, and the event will be sorely missed. On behalf of the ORHA, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Maureen, her team and all of their sponsors for their past sup- port.

The Sired Stakes Futurity will once again be held at the Grande Finale, and the

Grand Finale will also be the Regional Affiliate Finals this year, so that is exciting. We are looking for sponsors for that event, along with volunteers, so please consider how you can help out.

The Fletchers are also back on this year’s calendar with two shows, and those are always well-run events with a great social component.

The season kicks off on May 5th & 6th with Joanne Milton’s traditional Reiny Sea- son Clinic, featuring Heather Vaughn as this year’s clinician.

This year’s Spirit of Excellence Show at Y NOT Farms in Meaford will be a two day event, and will feature the Sired Stakes Derby.

We will be once again including a Scribes Clinic that weekend – if you would like to learn how to scribe, or just get more information about the judging and scoring of a reining pattern, this Clinic will be of interest. For more information please email me at Atten- dance is free.

I hope you are staying warm and safe, and I look forward to seeing you at the February 12th Annual General Meeting. Safe sliding.

Carol Reiny Season Clinic

Joanne Milton will be hosting her 15th Reiny Season Clinic this year, and she has never had the same clinician twice! This year’s clinician is Heather Vaughn, 2011 ORHA Rookie Professional Champion, 2011 ORHA Limited Open Champion, 2011 ORHA Intermediate Open Champion and Open Reserve Champion, 2011 ORHA Novice Horse Open Level 2 Champion. In addition, Heather earned four Reining Canada Champion titles in 2011, along with a very impressive SIX NRHA Top Ten awards.

event to the ORHA.

And those who attend get two great days of education and information for the low price of $150, with lunches included. Spectators can attend for a very inexpen- sive $5 per day and purchase their lunches. It is recommended that you bring your own chair.

Each year, the selected clinician donates his or her time, and Joanne gener- ously donates all the proceeds from the

This year’s clinic takes place May 5th and 6th (10:00 a.m. start) and will be at Rustic Meadows, 5712 Trafalgar Road (formerly highway 25), Hillsburgh. To reserve your spot (space is limited), please call 519-855-6865 or email

O.B.B.O. Trots and Slots

The O.B.B.O. will once again be host- ing another day of racing and fun at Flam- boro Downs on Saturday March 24th. There will be prizes, and this year’s theme is “Funky hats and caps.” For $30 per person, you can enjoy good food, exciting racing and maybe win a prize, while also supporting the O.B.B.O.

Deadline for ticket purchases is March 17th, and they can be obtained from Deb Bateman (519-841-8459) or Lise Nolet (905-384-2470), and will also be available at the February 12th Annual General Meet- ing.

Come on out for a fun time.

25th Anniversary

The Ontario Reining Horse Association is 25 years old as of 2012, and we have a special logo to celebrate this milestone. The new logo, once approved, will be posted on our website and used in our literature.

To commemorate the anniversary, we are offering special edition ballcaps featuring the new logo, and they will be available for purchase at this year’s events.
