BLACKMAGIC ADDS FCP SUPPORT

Apple has released an updated version of its editing software, with multicam editing and export from FCP 7 now supported by FCP X. Described by Apple as “a significant

update”, the latest version of the editing soft- ware should address some of the criticisms levelled at the overhauled software that was released back in June. Version 10.0.3 can sync up to 64 angles of video and photos using audio wave- forms, time and date or timecode to create a multicam clip that can include mixed for- mats, frame sizes and frame rates. An ‘angle viewer’ lets users play back multiple angles at the same time and cut between them. Apple said the third-

party ecosystem around Final Cut Pro X had “expanded dramatically” (see column, right), with VFX developers GenArts

and Red Giant developing a motion-graphics plug-in and a new app from Intelligent Assistance that allows FCP 7 projects to be imported into FCP X. Version 10.0.3 of the software also includes a beta of a broadcast monitoring application for users to connect to waveform displays, vector scopes and monitors via Thunderbolt devices and PCIe cards. Final Cut Pro X is priced at £199.99.

Intelligent provides bridge 7toX provides a bridge between FCP 7 and the FCP X, allowing users of the old ver- sion of the software to finish a project in the latest system. Developer Intelligent Assistance said the app translates meta- data including bins, clips and sequences to a new event in FCP X.

Blackmagic Design has updated its capture and playback products to add broadcast monitoring support for the new version of FCP X. Desktop Video 9.2 beta 1 includes support for DeckLink, Multibridge, Inten- sity and UltraStudio models. It includes a new control panel for selecting the video output format from FCP X for output to monitors, HD TVs and projectors. The upgrade is free for existing Blackmagic Design users.

X2PRO FOR FINAL CUT

Content workflow developer Marquis Broadcast has launched an app for deliver- ing Final Cut Pro X projects to Avid Pro Tools for audio finishing. X2Pro Audio Convert adapts the exported Final Cut Pro X XML into an AAF file, which Pro Tools can open as a session. X2Pro will be avail- able at the end of February at an intro- ductory price of $69.99 (£44) for the first month, compared with its usual price of $99.99 (£62).
