Broadcast TECH SEMINARS

The seminar programme of more than 250 talks in 11 theatres is claimed to be the largest of its kind in the UK. This year’s pro- gramme includes talks on subjects such as audio, content delivery, post-production and 3D, along with sessions dedicated to FCP X and Arri’s lighting rigs and Alexa camera.

PRECO Stand E52

Preco will launch its Logitek ROC audio console (pictured above) in the UK at this year’s show. For use in live control rooms, post-production rooms and news booths, it is a modular system with a low-profi le control panel that is available in six-, 12-, 18- and 24-fader confi gurations. The control surface includes high 100mm long-throw Penny and Giles faders, and OLED source indicators and meters. A reverse-printed overlay is designed to ensure that none of the printing will be worn off by surface abrasion.

AUTOCUE Stand C14

Autocue is a name that most associate with teleprompting but the company plans to use BVE to showcase its “complete, affordable end-to-end live production and newsroom workfl ow in support of the DCMS local TV initiative” (pictured below). Autocue group business development director Richard Satchell says: “We are the only manufacturer to offer a single solution for newsroom, scripting, automation, media management, video servers, broadcast monitors and tele- prompters with complete, scalable solutions ideal for local and regional TV operations, ranging in price from £25,000 to £125,000.”

ASPEN MEDIA Stand D50

Paris-based AETA’s 4MinX Location Recorder (pictured below) makes its UK debut on Aspen Media’s stand. The multi-track loca- tion recorder and mixer records to removable SD/SDHC cards. It also has an integral mixer for use with mono, stereo or MS mics, and is available as a standalone mixer or with two, four, six or eight-track recording. AETA’s portable audio codec Scoopy+ will also be on show. Designed for outside broadcast applications, Scoopy+ transmits and receives broadcast-quality audio via wired and wire- less networks.

Last year, the 3D Revolution Theatre was

arguably the busiest of all the seminar rooms. It’s likely to draw in the crowds again this year thanks to a keynote speech from William Sargent, founder of leading Soho post house Framestore. Last year, Sargent labelled the BBC’s approach to 3D “disappointing”, so it will be interesting to hear his latest thoughts on the current state of the burgeoning technology. On Tuesday, controller of BBC North Mark

Harrison (pictured, below right) will pose the question ‘Tapeless – is it worth the trouble?’ in the Broadcast Meets IT debate. Shane Warden (pictured, below left), general manager of IMG World’s MediaHouse Studios and Post Produc- tion, will continue the debate about tapeless with a presentation on fi le-based workfl ows at the Rugby World Cup. On Wednesday in the Audio Room, Sound-

SILENTAIR Stand M6

Exhibiting for the fi rst time at BVE, Silen- tair’s Serenity air-conditioning system has been designed to satisfy demanding noise- level requirements, which the manufacturer says makes it ideal for fi xed installations such as studios or post-production rooms, temporary location recordings or outside broadcast vehicles.

BVE takes place 14 to 16 February. For more information, visit www.bvexpo.co.uk
