PRODUCT ANATOMY JVC GY-HMQ10
JVC has dubbed its recently unveiled GY-HMQ10 “the world’s fi rst handheld 4K camcorder”, and says it records four times the resolution of 1080p. A prototype of the camera was on display at last year’s NAB show, where the compact device generated a lot of interest among delegates.
JVC says that although high-resolution
4K still-picture imaging has been around for several years in DSLR cameras, motion- video capture has always been done at a lower video resolution because of a lack of processing power. According to JVC, its Falconbrid LSI processor changes that by
taking raw image data from the camera’s CMOS device and debayering in real time. Product manager Gustav Emrich
describes the launch as “the birth of what is destined to become a broad market for full 4K end-to-end production”. The camcorder is priced £5,090 and is set to ship in March.
SOUND
A microphone holder and two balanced XLR connectors with phantom power are located on the handle. The camera is also equipped with a built-in stereo mic for ambient sound pick-up.
LENS
The GY-HMQ10 includes a built-in F2.8 10x zoom lens with optical image stabiliser, as well as a colour viewfi nder and 3.5-inch touch LCD monitor with a new user interface, with manual level controls for audio and audio metering in the LCD and viewfi nder displays.
