A time for fighting and a time for peace...

The concept for Tempvs came from the final track, which was the last song I composed for the album. Omnia tempvs habent is my adaptation of a passage from the book of Ecclesiastes and translates as ‘everything has its time’. The album is a collection of songs which I have written, traditional songs I have arranged and a setting of Thomas Hardy’s Without Ceremony to music. Each track relates to a recent time in my life, although I didn’t actually kill a previous lover on his wedding day (William Taylor, track 6).

A time to anger and a time to heal...

As well as being auto-biographical, Tempvs is reflective and I hope it provides food for thought to the listener. Writing Tempvs helped me at a time last year to be honest with myself about choices and decisions I had made, forcing me to summarise where I was and to address how I could make

necessary changes. Admitting I wasn’t happy with my life felt wrong and quite selfish because I knew how fortunate I was to have so much. I felt like I had hit a brick wall and could go no further on the path I had chosen without greater honesty. I had to address past events: ‘Though we may be older, we

can’t escape the past’ (Little Robin Redbreast) and take responsibility for how I was feeling (World Weary).
