• Stanford School of Medicine: “Pain affects virtually every one of our citizens.”

West Houston Theosophical Study Center Presents: Bridging the Faith Divide, A Public Talk by His Holiness the Dalai Lama

H

is Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, is both the head of state and the spiritual leader of Tibet. Born July 6, 1935, His Holiness began his monastic edu- cation at the age of six. After China’s inva- sion of Tibet in 1949, in 1950, he was called upon to assume full political power. But in 1959, the brutal suppression of the Tibetan

national uprising in Lhasa by Chinese troops, forced His Holi- ness into exile in Dharamsala, located in northern India. Since the Chinese invasion of Tibet, His Holiness has appealed to the United Nations on the question of Tibet’s inde- pendence. In 1989, he was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize for his non-violent struggle for the liberation of Tibet. He has con- tinued to advocate policies of non-violence, even in the face of extreme aggression. In July 2011, the Theosophical Society in America invited him to speak as part of the Society’s annual summer conven- tion. This program at the University of Illinois, emceed by Bill Kurtis of WBBM-TV, was recorded there. There will be a dis- cussion following the DVD. West Houston Theosophical Study Center meets at Tracy

Gee Community Center at 3599 Westcenter every 3rd Thurs- day of each month. All meetings are free and open to the pub- lic.
