theawakeningcommunity Cindy Eagleton by Barbara Lynn Silberg
A few years ago, Cindy Eagleton, Cht, of Practical Hypnosis for Practically Everything was “just a mother.” She still plays tennis, delivers Meals on Wheels, and officiates baseball, basketball and volleyball games. But her passion for healing catapulted her into the world of hypnosis, a world where focus and relaxation can work miracles.
Barbara: How would you describe your business? Cindy: I help people make changes in their lives that they have not been able to manage themselves. They come with fears, phobias, traumas, bad habits, medical issues, anything and everything. Like a photo album or a computer, the sub- conscious mind stores everything that happens around us, 24/7, positive and negative. Based on past experiences, the subconscious mind makes a decision about your experience. At one point, perhaps your subconscious mind decided you needed protecting . . . and that is exactly what it has been doing; protecting you. The information just needs to be updat- ed. So a dog that jumped out at you when you were five does not make all dogs dangerous. A spider startling you when you were two should not cause panic. As a clinical hypnotherapist, I use hypnosis as an adjunct to medical treatment. Often it begins with simply processing the initial shock, (often trauma) of a medical diagnosis like cancer. Dealing with a serious illness is frightening for every- one, families included. Fear creates stress, making matters even worse. Hypnosis can return the body to homeostasis, a balanced, healing state, so you can better deal with illness. Through the processes of suggestion therapy and guided imagery, I coach the subconscious mind in facilitating the body’s natural healing ability, encouraging clients to set posi- tive and specific goals and to become active in their healing plan.
Stress is responsible for 75% of all disease and illness. It
is easy to teach people self-hypnosis to resolve that stress before it blossoms into high blood pressure or heart disease. Pain is also very stressful and scary. Daily hypnosis can make a dramatic difference, significantly reducing discomfort and medications (under a doctor’s guidance). I also use Neuro-Linguistic Programming, NLP. These are patterns utilized by people who excel to achieve outstanding results. I use it to help people improve their sports perform- ance. When you calm the mind, and allow all the hard work and practice you have put into your game to rise to the sur-

face, unobstructed by negative mind chatter, the body will perform to maximum effect. NLP is also perfect for quick change and bringing forth all the positive, strong resources you’ve always had within you to use to achieve your desired goals, like stop smoking.
I also teach childbirth education classes, using hyp- nosis for a more comfortable, drug-free delivery. Not only will you be calm, confident and relaxed throughout your pregnancy and birth, but will continue to reap its benefits after the baby is born as a more relaxed, con- fident new parent. The foundations of hypnosis provide solid principles for childrearing, such as speaking to your child in positive statements instead of negatives. When you make a negative statement to a child, his mind first sees the negative image you created before he can visualize your positive inten- tion.
Barbara: How did you get started? Cindy: I attended group hypnosis to quit smoking about 12 years ago. A few hours later, I left a habit of 20 years behind. That experience shifted something inside me. I began reading everything I could find about energy work, power of the mind, body/mind connection. I studied with Brett Baum, who got me fascinated with energy medicine and hypnosis. I soon found myself in Santa Fe at the Hypnotherapy Academy.
Barbara: How would you sum up your philosophy? Cindy: There are no failures, only feedback. Every part of you has a positive intention and everything you have done is an achievement.
Barbara: What’s your favorite quote? Cindy: “You get what you focus on,” plain, simple and so true.
