We know the figure above represents the average distribution of this publication. No more, no less. It’s the absolute truth. How do we know? Well, we have our publication audited by the CAB. Why? Because we are committed to protecting our advertisers. The CAB audits our newspapers, magazines, websites and exhibitions to make sure advertisers are getting all of what they are paying so much for. There is a lot of money at stake, but a surprisingly large number of advertisers blindly trust the numbers they are given by unaudited media. We just don’t understand why. Why would an advertiser risk paying too much for too little? Ask yourself this, what kind of media outlet wouldn’t want to be audited? As an advertiser, put your mind at rest, insist that you only use media that’s

been CAB audited. Like this one. *Average Net Distribution September 2011

Sleeves rolled up for greater good

By STEPHEN BISSET

ONE of the mission statements of the Salvation Army is to “save souls, grow saints and serve suffering humanity”.

Now, Majors Gavin and Wendy Watts are ready to “roll their sleeves up” and get on with the hard work of improving the “physical, emotional and spiritual” well-being of the Hunter community after their appointment as leaders of the Newcastle and Central NSW division.

Chief secretary Colonel Wayne Maxell and his wife and territorial secretary for women’s ministries Robin Maxwell were on hand to offi cially install the pair in their new positions at a service at the Salvation Army centre Hamilton on Sunday.

The role of divisional leader, previously held by Major Kerry Haggar, is to oversee all of the corps (the Salvation Army equivalent of

a church) and social centres in the region and there are seven divisions in NSW – Sydney and East Illawarra, the greater west, Newcastle and central NSW, north NSW, south NSW and ACT.

Major Gavin Watts said he and Wendy were looking forward to the challenge. “It was a very special and signifi cant service because it acknowledged that God called us to become Salvos and that, in return, we do all that we can for the physical, spiritual and emotional well-being of our region,” he said. “Obviously we’re both really looking forward to the challenge of the role and fi nding out all we can about the area, as neither of us have served in the region before.” Major Watts said he and his wife had been involved in the Salvation Army for more than 20 years, serving in Wollongong, New Zealand, Sydney, Brisbane and Port Macquarie. The Newcastle and central NSW division covers a considerable territory – as far north as Laurieton, as far south as Umina and with rural chaplains based in Dubbo, who travel as far as Cobar in the state’s northeast.

“When we first realised the amount of territory we were covering, I was, like, ‘wow’,” he said.

energy and enthusiasm to the role and we’re looking forward to rolling our sleeves up and building on the fantastic work of our predecessor. “The Salvation Army is an
