60 Chats du Quercy have found new loving homes for hundreds of cats thanks to
your ongoing support. However, there are still many needing care at our Rescue Centre over the festive period and they will all need forever homes in 2012.
There have been several stories over the past year that have shocked us deeply. Stories like those of a litter of kittens thrown into the Canal du Midi with no chance of escape, only one survived (Kitty, photo right) and 3 loving cats that were put to sleep by their owner because of a breakdown in family relationships, even though we offered them a safe haven. Also, as ever, there are those who are abandoned by their owners just because they no longer want to care for them.

the cross, recognising that this has enabled their sins to be forgiven by God and the gift of eternal life se- cured through their faith in Christ.
The main service on Good Friday often takes place between midday and 3pm. In many churches it takes the form of a meditation based on the seven last words of Jesus on the cross, with hymns, prayers, and short sermons. You are warmly invited to join us at the service at 12.30pm at St. Barthélemy, Cahors.
It is traditional to eat Hot Cross Buns' on Good Friday. These buns, with their combination of spicy, sweet and fruity flavours, have long been an Easter tradition. The pastry cross on top of the buns symbolises and reminds us of the crucifixion of Jesus.
Easter Sunday – 8 April
Because of the distances at Terre Rouge we are unable to celebrate Holy Saturday with a Light Vigil, and we do it at 8.30am on Easter Sunday, followed by Easter day Holy Communion. This is the culmination of all of Lent and the day when Jesus rose again. The church at Terre Rouge is usually full with nearly 100 people; and the hymns are joyous as they celebrate the resurrection of Christ, three days after he was crucified. We shall be holding an Easter Light Vigil at 8.30am and an Easter Day Holy Communion Service at 10.00am at Terre Rouge. Please join us - you will be most welcome!
Ascension Day – 17 May 2012 The Ascension of Jesus is the Christian teaching from the New Testament of the moment when the resurrected Jesus was taken up to heaven in his resurrection body in the presence of eleven of his Apostles.
According to the doctrine, Jesus was returning to his Father and his heavenly throne, and now sits at the right hand of God the Father in heaven. Ascension Day is held on the sixth Thursday - the fortieth day after Easter.
This is the day in England when it was tradition to “beat the bounds”. Members of the parish would walk round the parish boundaries, marking boundary stones (e.g. by writing on them in chalk) and hitting them with sticks. Knowledge of the parish boundaries was once important, since churches had certain duties such as
the care of children born out of wedlock in the parish. According to some traditions, it was once the young boys of the parish who were hit with sticks instead of the stones. This was to deter them from any inappropriate liaisons with the young women who lived in the parish and hence to conserve parish funds!
Pentecost - 27 May 2012 Pentecost is a very exciting time in the Church calendar as it is regarded as the birthday of the Christian Church. It is the festival when Christians celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit first given on the Sunday which was 50 days after the resurrection and 10 days after the ascension of Christ. Pentecost comes from the Greek for ‘Fiftieth Day’ and is also known as Whitsunday (or White Sunday) as this was traditionally the time for baptisms when those in attendance wore white, and first coincided with a Jewish harvest festival called Shavuot.
The apostles were celebrating this festival when the Holy Spirit descended on them. It sounded like a very strong wind, and looked like tongues of fire. The apostles then found themselves speaking in foreign languages, inspired by the Holy Spirit. People passing by at first thought that they must be drunk, but the apostle Peter told the crowd that the apostles were full of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the third part of the Trinity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - the way Christians understand God.
Pentecost is a happy festival. Ministers in church often wear robes with red in the design as a symbol of the flames in which the Holy Spirit came to earth. This is reflected in the symbols which represent the Holy Spirit and also include wind, the breath of God and a dove. At the baptism of Jesus, he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him (Matthew 3:16). He also described the Holy Spirit as the Comforter who would come when he (Jesus) had ascended to heaven (John 16:7). The biblical narrative of Pentecost is given in the first eight verses of the second chapter of the Book of Acts.
