Adopt-a-Family!
In the spirit of the season, the GHBA and its members partner with the Houston Housing Authority each year to support those less fortunate in our community and provide a more joyous holiday for local families. On December 9 and 10, GHBA members 'adopted' 51 families, fulfilling a wish list for a total of 165 people.
I just want to take a moment and say 'thank you!' to everyone who lent their support to the 2011 Adopt-a-Family Project. This event ran very smoothly due to all the help we had on Friday and Saturday, and the hard work of our great committee members.
Special thanks to Jim Wyatt of MasterBrand Cabinets for donating the use of their truck to delivers our gifts. Thanks also to all the employees of the GHBA and HomeAid Houston, who were a big help on Friday as we wrapped gifts and prepared for the BIG day on Saturday. Whether you spread the word, showed up on Friday and/or Saturday, sponsored a family, served as an Elf Sponsor, or all of the above, we say THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
Frank Aranza (our namesake) is always an enthusiastic leader on both days of the event, and he took time off his retirement this year to help out with this great cause. And a very special thanks to GHBA's Peggy Means, who took over this event for the first time and did a superb job. Everything went according to plan, and we were able to help some truly appreciative families this year (just like every year!). If you have never been a part of this event in the past, I urge you to get involved next year so we can adopt even more families and spread the holiday cheer.
