Meet the 2012 GHBA Board of Directors Strong Leadership = a Strong Association


we look forward to 2012, GHBA would like to introduce you to some of its key members—the incoming board of directors. These professionals come from all sectors of the building industry. Together they volunteer countless hours to the association, helping shape policy, drive growth, and lead the charge for education and advocacy.

The GHBA board of directors is comprised of 30 members, each with unique strengths and points of view to contribute. Here we will profile the new members joining the board. We invite you to get to know your leadership, starting here.

Lawrence Dean


Lawrence Dean has more than 10 years experience in the Houston building industry. His involvement includes sitting on the 2011 Executive Committee, presenting


to the Community Developers Council, representing GHBA in Austin at Legislative Rally Day, participating in the GHBA Membership Drive, volunteering to sell HomeAid Houston Playhouse raffle tickets, and continued support of HOME- PAC. Currently an associate member, Dean has also been a builder member of the association in the past, during his tenure in land acquisitions and land development for some of the largest builders in the Houston market. Dean is now the senior market analyst with CDS Market Research, a company that has been an industry institution for nearly four decades. When asked why he chose to serve on the GHBA board, Dean said: “Quite simply, I am very passionate about both the homebuilding industry and my hometown of Houston. GHBA serves both of these in so many ways.”


Kevin Frankel


Kevin Frankel is the vice president of Frankel Building Group. After graduating from Washington University in St. Louis, Kevin moved back to his home town of


Houston to work in the Reliant Energy Analyst Program. He left Reliant to attend the University of Houston where he received his MBA, while working at Wulfe and Co. After three years in commercial real estate leasing and development, Kevin joined Frankel Building Group. Since he began, he has overseen more than $60 million in custom home sales. Also a licensed broker in the State of Texas, Kevin owns the Frankel Realty Group,


heading up acquisitions as well as cost forecasting for Frankel Building Group. Kevin has been a member of GHBA for his entire homebuilding career. He has served on the Custom Builders Council board of directors since 2007, and was chairman of the board in 2010. He loves working with his family each day and spending time with his wife and three children.


John Gillette


A long time GHBA member, John Gillette, GMB, CGR, CAPS is owner of Craf tsmanship by John Inc., a construction company specializing in remodeling. In addition to


the GHBA board, John will lead the 2012 Remodelors Council as president.


John has been in the construction industry on and off since he was 14 years old. "I started out by sweeping out houses. Due to my young age I could not be on an active construction site, but was intrigued by what I saw," says John. "One thing led to another and I started working in the summer as an apprentice laborer, carpenter and gofer. I was fortunate to learn from some true craftsman (hence the name of my company) who taught me the skills required in building a quality home from the ground up."


John opened his business in 1992 as a one man operation, determined to provide the quality he was taught with attention to detail as well as the customer’s needs and wants. The company has grown over the years but still holds true to its founding tenets.


John has obtained a number of certifications through the association, including GMB, CGR and CAPS. He also participates in a number of charity projects and other community activities.
