HOMEAID DEDICATES COMPLETION OF WOMEN'S SHELTER RENOVATIONS
Santa Maria Hostel Gets a Facelift
Team members responsible for a makeover of the lobby and guest bathroom at the Santa Maria Hostel shelter in Spring Branch, gathered to dedicate the space in November. HomeAid Houston, a GHBA charity, worked with team members Dennis Haws, Remodeler Captain and owner of All Star Construction, and Leslie King with Greymark Construction to complete the renovation called Project Welcome Home.
By Design Interiors donated the design work and acquisition of furnishings and accessories, and the Women Contractors Association provided underwriting of the project through its “Boots & Bling” fundraiser.
Also joining the construction team for the dedication were Parke Patterson, HomeAid board president; Peggy Fuller and Chelsea Morales, By Design Interiors; Mike Dishberger, GHBA past president; Lianne Lami, president of the Women Contractors Association board; Kay Austin, executive director of Santa Maria Hostel; Santa Maria board members and HomeAid staff members Bette Moser, Lea Pipitone, and Judith Drummond.
Vendors and trades who donated materials and labor were also on-hand, including Ferguson Enterprises Inc, Marek Brothers Drywall, Tommy Phelps, and
Raymond Smith.
A resident of the shelter shared stories of her past with guests and her road to recovery through the programs and support Santa Maria provides, which was a special highlight of the event.
The HomeAid team enhanced the shelter’s lobby with a new reception desk, flooring and paint, new furniture and accessories and window treatments. The guest bathroom was a complete renovation with a new toilet, sink, flooring and light fixtures.
Santa Maria is committed to providing services for women and their children in crisis, including female veterans facing homelessness. It is also the largest multi-site substance abuse treatment center serving both women and their children in the State of Texas.
Vendors and suppliers who were recognized included, Sherwin- Williams Paint Co., Ferguson Enterprises Inc., Gulf & Basco, Interceramic Tile and Stone Gallery, Mainland Marble, Zodiac and Venetian Blinds and Floors.
