Dance Composition Lab

In this 2-weekend forum we’ll guide and encourage your investigation of how to articulate physical expression, and give you the tools to organize and structure your work, leading to an informal showing in the Flynn’s Open Marley series on February 11 at 7 pm. Explore methods for generating new movement—including unbounded expression and improvisational structures—as well as how to make choices that manipulate, alter, and refine movement phrases. Participants may request access to daytime studio space when available.

tap

Tap I & II/III An exciting and challenging art form that developed out of African polyrhythms in America’s Jazz Age, tap is highly energetic and fun. We teach a combination of “hoofing,” or rhythm tap made popular by artists like Savion Glover and Gregory Hines, as well as elements of classic and Broadway- style tap. The form’s musicality and rich percussive traditions are emphasized through fundamental skills and increasingly intricate progressions. Level II/III is faster-paced, and explores more complex rhythms and choreography. Tap shoes required.
