SEX. To some it’s simply a meaningless three-letter word and to others it’s a subject that consumes their lives. Upon healthy examination those three letters give creation—as both noun
and verb—to a word subjected to being one of the most important topics in life. After all the fact is undeniable, sex is what gives people life and in some cases it’s what ends people’s lives—both literally and figuratively. At any rate it’s a hot topic that, when brought up, causes much of society to tip-toe an uncom-
fortable two-step around the subject, while others turn toward a tango of titillating tales. No matter how it’s done, that is, talked about freely among friends or for educational purposes, sex is bound to cause some controversy. Yet there is no escaping sex, as it surrounds us everywhere. It’s shown in movies, music videos, song lyrics, talk shows, books, etc. So why not embrace it? After all truth be told, who doesn’t love sex? But what happens when that love becomes an obsession or addiction? Or you don’t feel the love at all?
Noted sex specialist Christopher Donaghue tackles the
tough topic with open arms and embraces all things sexual in a healthy manner. He’s dedicated his professional life to helping people reclaim control of their sex lives through intense individual and group therapy sessions in which he imparts his sex-positive outlook. This fall, Donaghue shares his perspective along with
the real-life experiences of ten diverse individuals on Logo’s new docu-reality series Bad Sex. The show captures the dynamic group sessions and explosive heartfelt exchanges among clients, offering a shockingly frank behind-the-scenes look at the process of healing severe sexual issues. The Rage Monthly got a sneak peek at the ten-episode
series and spoke candidly with the sexuality expert about the upcoming season and the issues he deals with, which
range from dangerous promiscuity to clinically frigid virginity. Donaghue delves into and embraces the very serious subject everyone can relate to on some level, offer- ing a completely different outlook on the taboo topic and his journey toward creating a sexual revolution. What took you down the path to become a sexuality expert and how exactly does one go about gaining such a great job title? (Laughing) I’ve always been fascinated with the topic, as
it is something the affects everybody in the world. I began pursuing my masters degree in clinical social work from Tempe University and am currently finishing a doctoral degree in clinical psychology from Pacifica Graduate Insti- tute. I trained in couples’ therapy at Florida’s Post Graduate Sex Therapy Training Program, at UCLA and The Center for Sexual Health. Currently I have a private practice, which specializes in couples and sex therapy and I run a sex addic-
