BRING IT ON: THE MUSICAL After a nationwide search of more than 3,000

performers, the producers of Bring It On: The Musi- cal announce that the cast for the National Touring Company will launch at the Ahmanson Theatre. Based on the 2000 film, the musical focuses on a cheer-team rivalry between an affluent high school student and one from a poorer, urban district. A perky blonde heroine named Campbell is reassigned to urban Jackson High School where she must win the respect of her new teammates, as they are in direct competition with her old school. Word has it that the musical has an exciting new sound and high-flying, gravity-defying acrobatics and choreography worth cheering for.

Figueroa Del Rivero in Washington, D.C., on Janu- ary 23, 1933 of native Puerto Rican parents. Music was in her family; her father, Pedro Julio Figueroa was a clarinetist and saxophonist with the Navy Band who passed when Chita was seven. Her mother, Katherine, found work at the Pentagon and during that time Chita remembers hunting for Easter eggs on the White House lawn—a moment that came full circle in 2009, when she was among 16 awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in a ceremony back at the White House. The legendary two-time Tony winner pays homage to songs that she immortalized in some of Broadway’s most memorable shows including West Side Story, Bye Bye Birdie, Chicago, Kiss of the Spiderwoman and many more.
