Have you set yourself up for a great ride? There are so many things that can happen during the holidays to derail
your best intentions—we all work to enjoy the season but it can be challenging at times. Family dramas usually become that much more intense as we reconnect. Try as we may, it can be taxing to listen to
the same stories, told ad nauseum… or the same questions, like the inevitable “when are you getting married?” asked by my oh-so-in-denial-sister-in-law. I like our writer Angela Osborne’s attitude on page 32 and how she plans to cope differently this year—with a little butt-kicking. Eating is such a part of what the holidays are about and in these pages we try to help you prepare. Even our fashion
section on page 42, has a food connection as John Lavin our model shops for the very things that make a meal special. The fantastic designer Ted Baker dressed him only in the way he can: classic lines and beautiful fabrics layered to perfection. Our guest writer, Chef Scott Wagoner, gives us unique twists on classic fare for distinctive culinary addi- tions to dress your dinner table. And, on page 60, we literally show you how to deck out your table, step-by-step. From where to place the dinner plate to arranging the wine glasses— the main point being: have fun with it, the only limit is the one you place on your imagination. Speaking of limitations, or letting them fall away, we have a few stories about journeys, some beginning, some
completed and some to be revealed. InHollywood to Dollywood on page 48, we ride along in the back of an RV named Jolene, as twin brothers Gary and Larry Lane seek out a country icon for their film project. Along the way they discover more about themselves, their place in the world and the people they share it with than they ever thought possible. Page 34 is all about Logo’s new series Bad Sex, a revealing and honest look at attitudes about sex and sexual identities. It poses the question, “is there any such thing as bad sex or is it a bad attitude?” It’s all about the journey and there is one thing that I have learned, we are supposed to ENJOY the ride. I am passing
this quote along shared by a friend that reminds me to embrace risks: “Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, covered in scars, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming ‘yahoo, what a ride!’” Good stuff for the soul. Eat a little, drink a little, be honest, be kind and for heaven’s sake allow yourself the joy of a good time and good company. Julia Child said it perfectly, “everything in moderation.”
