As I have to be in Westminster during the week,
unfortunately I don't get to attend as many of these meetings as I would like to. The Community Council discussed several issues including the proposals for the devlopment at Winton and an update from local PC Kenny Welsh. I was concerned to learn that the local Buckstone Youth
Club are struggling for funds for their shed. I am often asked by various companies to participate in market research questionnaires where they will make a donation to a local charity. To help with the shed funds, I have agreed to donate the next questionnaire fund to Buckstone Youth Club. Margaret Walker and her colleagues, James and Paul have
done a great job with the club over the years and I know many of the local youngsters are really grateful for the club.
(DLA) away from those in residential care homes. I have been contacted by many constituents who rely on the payment to be able to freely visit family and friends at a time of their choosing. It was a superb event with
Thousands of people from
across the city affected by the drastic cuts to disability benefits gathered to raise their concerns. I spoke with several of the attendees and they are fearful for their future without access to key benefits which allow them participate fully in society. For example, I am dismayed
at the government's decision to take the mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance
speakers from a range of disability charities calling on the UK government to ensure changes to benefits do not make disabled people worse-off and to improve assessments that test people's ability to work. Similar events were held
across the UK and thanks should be given to the Disability Benefits Consortium and the UK Disabled People's Council who organised the rallies.
