It was a well attended rally and I met
with Ken Harrold, Chair of the National Pensioners Covention Scottish Branch (pictured). We discussed the concerns of his
members such as pensions and they're fear that the government might renege on the "triple lock guarantee" which, if instated, would see the state pension rise significantly. Ken also impressed upon me the issue
of fuel poverty and gave some frightening statistics of the number of older people who died last year due to cold related illnesses. I'm really concerned about the government's reduction in the Winter Fuel Allowance and I have made a number of representations to the Minister on this very issue. The rally was chaired by Frank Cooper,
NPC Presidents and speakers included Pensions Minister Steve Webb MP, Shadow Pensions Minister Gregg McClymont MP, Dave Prentis of UNISON and Dot Gibson of NPC. For more information on NPC, please

This month, the volunteering charity CSV launched their campaign. I have taken the pledge to encourage people
throughout Edinburgh South to give time to benefit the local community. I was joined by CSV Patron Pete Waterman and Radio 5 Live presenter Rachel Burden. The focus this year is on isolation and lonliness and demonstrates that by being an active member of the community you can make people feel less lonely, anxious and isolated.
