WESTMINSTER The Government allocates a number of days each term for
Opposition Day debates. These are topical debates proposed by the Opposition. Last month we had debates on "Jobs and Growth", "Energy Prices", "The Government's record on the NHS", "Government's reconrd on environmental protection and green growth" and "Individual Voter Registration". These half day or full day debates allow the Government to
be pressed on key policies. There are also Backbench Business Committee allocated
days and this was the mechanism that allowed the Hillsborough and EU Referendum debates. Go to
www.bbc.co.uk/democracylive to view past or current
debates.
