Audience members who have supported the Priory Players over the years will not be surprised by this as they will have come across these characters before, as they appear in the trilogy of plays known as The Norman Conquests, all three of which the PPs have performed with great success previously.

The 32

table manners displayed by the characters in Alan

Ayckbourn’s play of the same name leaves a lot to be desired!

And the PPs hope to repeat that success with “Table Manners” this month. The casting for this production is almost as complicated as the play. “Table Manners” is being directed by Andy Pace, whose wife Margaret is also in the play. Chris and

John Ward (also a married couple) are in the cast. But neither of these four are married to each other in the play!

Kath Lynch and Val Youngman make up the cast but they are not related either in or out of the play! Val plays Norman who attempts a “conquest” of both his sisters-in-law, the somewhat plain Annie (Chris) and Sarah (Kath) who is full of airs and graces. Norman’s wife, the totally career-minded Ruth (Margaret) watches on indiff erently! Observing from the sidelines with varying degrees of confusion are Sarah’s husband Reg (John) and Annie’s unworldly friend Tom (Andy.) As with all Ayckbourn’s plays the comedy is character-driven and the audience will recognise all or some or at least aspects of this convoluted family.

‘Table Manners’ by Alan Ayckbourn is performed by the Priory Players on Thursday to Saturday October 13 -15 at 8pm at the Progress Hall, Admiral Seymour Road, Eltham. Tickets are £7 and £6 (conc) from 07502 450983 or on the door.
