SEnine The Progress Estate

Now it was built (strange to relate) Before The First World War was done - This Eltham cottage-style estate; Homes for those people working on Munitions needed by The State.

So, I recall a childhood dear, Though it is a half-century since I left these roads and those named here - Rupert who held the title "Prince" And some less noble ones appear:

Ross, Dickson, Congreve, these ones too - Quaint thoroughfares such names recall - Maudslay, Lovelace, to name a few. I wonder, were they here at all? And Martin Bowes none claimed they knew.

Now with my thoughts of lives now run I walk this tranquil gardened way; And yet, before the day is done "Arsenal" and "Shrapnel" have their say How dearly such a peace was won.
