Rohnert Park, CA. ~ There is something absolutely thrill- ing about releasing a heavy round sphere and watching it roll over a surface like that of glass and listening and watch- ing as it slams into a wall of stationary objects that scatter everywhere! Jim Decker III(above)
runs Double Decker Lanes in Rohnert Park and has the best job in the world: Selling hap- piness! And, it really is. When I saw the junior kids arrive 20 minutes after sitting down with Jim, who's father bought two bowling lanes, Rose Bowl and Holiday Bowl way back in 1970's, they were all ready- to go, smiles and all! Jim began working in bowl-
ing alley's at the age of 12 helping his father as a mechan- ic, and all the way through Montgomery High School in Santa Rosa. He later went off to college to further his skills on running the equipment in the bowling alleys. As a father of two sons, 20 and 23, the youngest is now attending at NAU and the oldest works the snack bar at Double Decker. Double Decker Lanes was
built in 1974 and opened in 1975. The state of the art bowling center is the largest and most modern in the North Bay, featuring 50 lanes with
bumpers and automatic scor- ing. They have a full-service Lounge and Sports Bar with big screen TVs, a Snack Bar serving everything from deli- cious burgers to fresh pizza, a banquet/meeting room available for all events, and a video arcade of the cool- est games - complete with pool tables. This facility also has the "Classic Sports" Elite Pro Shop for all your bowling equipment, accessories, and lessons. The shop also does screenprinting, embroidery, trophies, executive gifts and awards. Jim tell me that the Name
Double Decker was given to his dad when he played foot- ball at USC. As a young kid I bowled at the lanes with my brothers in Sebastopol way back in the early 70's. Later he shut down the bowling lanes to open DD Lanes. The bowling alley is also
the first in the nation to run entirely on solar energy. Eight years ago they installed a state of the art alternative energy system that powers 100% of the power they need. I am really pleased also
about Jim's attitude toward what he does and how he puts so much effort into family activities, children's birthday parties, corporate parties, and
fundraising events. Teenagers and young adults love the Rock-N-Glow bowling on Friday and Saturday nights. Afternoons are popular with seniors and families. League bowling takes place on the weeknights, but with 50 lanes, there is usually plenty of lanes for the general public to bowl, and that is the best part. It is really a sport the whole family can enjoy! Jim also attends frequent
bowling expo's and education- al seminars to make the expe- rience at his establishment one of the best in the county. With 28 employees, Jim manages with a relaxed style I admire. I really appreciate the fact he took the time to meet with the Upbeat Times and thank him for marketing his busi- ness with our magazine. Right now is a great time to join the leagues he has, and they're for all ages! Double Decker Lanes has a clean happy atmo- sphere and I am sure anyone who goes there will will have an awesome time. And don't worry about getting strikes all the time, just remember to have fun! Don't forget to tell Mr. Decker you saw and read about him in the Upbeat Times. He's great guy and definitely deserves a thumbs up from us!
