Journey to the hill country from the beach resort of Negombo via the famous Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage, a sanctuary for these loveable animals. The royal city of Kandy enjoys a picturesque lakeside setting. Its famous golden roofed temple houses the sacred tooth relic of Buddha, a must see during your time here as are the beautiful botanical gardens, colonial buildings and craft bazaars. As night falls, enjoy a traditional Sri Lankan cultural performance showcasing Kandyan dancing, before retiring to the wonderful confi nes of your boutique hotel.
Head further above sea level to Hatton, dominated by vast tea plantations and cascading waterfalls. The surroundings of your accommodation are much the same, dotted with tea pickers in brightly coloured saris creating a magical view. Visit a traditional tea factory where you can watch the entire process and sample this favourite British brew. A beautiful drive down through the cool tea plantations, via the town of Kithulgala, where the famed ‘Bridge on the River Kwai’ was fi lmed, brings you to the warmer, unspoilt southwest coastal town of Bentota. Spend your days here relaxing in your beach retreat, bringing your Sri Lankan experience to a perfect end.

Days 1 & 2 Fly to Colombo and transfer to Jetwing Beach, Negombo (1) for one night
Day 3 Head to the lakeside city of Kandy where you’ll stay at The Kandy House (2) for two nights. Enjoy a city tour including the Temple of the Tooth relic
Day 4 Visit Kandy’s colourful Royal Botanical Gardens, take the chance to explore the craft bazaars and enjoy a cultural show
Days 5 & 6 Head up to the rolling hills and tea plantations of Hatton. Visit a traditional tea factory and relax in these sublimely peaceful surroundings. Stay at Ceylon Tea Trails (3) for two nights
Day 7 Proceed to Bentota, via Kithulgala enjoying the waterfalls of St Clairs. Stay at Saman Villas, Bentota (4) for four nights
