Happy Days! I hope you
too will fi nd and catch
some nice big Madine carp

go out in the boat but never both competitors. Also, remember that your runner can only steer and manage the boat, he cannot take part in the fi shing side, netting etc.
Weed The weed situation on the lake chang- es year by year and some areas will be weedier than others. This can make fi shing the swim more diffi cult but, gen- erally speaking, the weed will hold and attract fi sh. If a swim is not fi shable then I will pull it from the draw, however, a lot of the weed is fl oating around after the weed cutter has done its job and can turn up in new areas after strong winds during the event. If you do fi nd weed rafts etc in your swim and you need to get out over them, then the easiest way is to row over them rather than trying to use your outboard.
Rubbish This year, can you all ensure that you take all of your bags of rubbish away
‘Fish well, respect those fi shing around you and any fi sh that you catch, as fi sh care is very important’
with you at the end of the match. There are plenty of containers around the lake, at the car park and at the boat depart/arrive areas. There was far too much left last year for others to clear up after you, if bags of rubbish are found in your swim there will be penalties. Madine is also being more environmentally friendly this year and needs to recycle more rubbish, so watch out for details of this.
Summary Well that’s just about me done. I look forward to seeing you all at the event whilst fi shing as I will try to get around during the week to see as many of you as possible. Fish well, respect those fi sh- ing around you and any fi sh that you catch, as fi sh care is very important. Respect the Marshals in your section as they are my eyes and ears and, above all, have fun and enjoy the World Carp Classic 2010, and you wnever know, you may be this year’s winners.

Always remember to wear your lifejacket every time you go out in the boat. Last year also saw me putting out temporary bans on the use of boats for short periods of time because of the storms and very strong winds on the lake. This decision was not taken lightly and did not go down too well with some competitors as a few swims were sheltered and okay, but I cannot make a swim by swim decision and I have to be fair to everyone. Safety is the number one issue here, and even in one of the safety boats with a pet- rol engine it was diffi cult in the waves, so with a dinghy and electric engine it would have been impossible. Hope- fully, the situation won’t happen this year, but the weather is unpre- dictable and if the lake becomes dangerous again because of the winds I will do the same, so please be patient if it does happen.
