Roderick Dexter v. Alvin Liebeskind and Giant Food, Inc. CAL 01-00493, Circuit Court for Prince George’s County


Date of Verdict: 2/26/02


Facts: Mr. Dexter, an employee of Coca Cola Enterprises, went to the Riverdale Giant to “merchandise” the Coca-Cola display at that store. After Mr. Dexter parked his car and was walking towards the Giant, Mr. Liebeskind caused his vehicle to strike Mr. Dexter at about 15 mph. Mr. Liebeskind was working as an employee of Giant Food, Inc. at the time of this incident.


Allegations of Liability: Negligence against Mr. Liebeskind and Respondeat Superior against Giant Food, Inc.


Injuries and Damages: Mr. Dexter sus-


tained a torn meniscus that required two arthroscopic surgeries. Mr. Dexter’s medi- cal expenses were $21,126.29. Mr. Dexter was out of work for an entire year as a result of the accident. Although Mr. Dexter claimed $26,179.20 in lost wages, the jury only awarded $2,592.00 in lost wages. The jury, however, awarded $100,000.00 in non-economic damages.

Maureen Blades & Daniel Blades v. Brinks, Incorporated Circuit Court for Prince George’s County, No. CAL01-19263


Facts: Plaintiff, Maureen Blades, was pro- ceeding on Route 301 southbound approaching the intersection with the exit from 214 (Central Avenue), when a Brinks armored vehicle ran a stop sign and came out in front of Plaintiff’s vehicle, which was traveling approximately 55 mph. The Plaintiff ’s vehicle was knocked off the road and into a ditch.


Allegations of Liability: Liability of the Defendant operator was stipulated.
