What’s New at
www.mdtriallawyers.com by Nicole Schultheis
Nicole Schultheis of Schultheis & Walton, P.A, is a Governor of MTLA, an ATLA State Delegate, and the Chair of MTLA’s Technology Committee.
By now you may have noticed that the
Maryland Trial Lawyers Association has improved its website. Recent changes include a secure server
for credit card transactions, a much-im- proved members’ area, a shopping cart, and online general and section member- ship applications. Plus, there’s an easier navigation system to help get you around the site. Virtually every page of the site has been upgraded or improved, and the site now offers much more in the way of dynamic, substantive content. Our improved cal- endar now connects members with full information about seminars and other events, and permits members to link through to sign-up forms for MTLA pro- grams.
MTLA’s Document Bank is also now fully on line. The Technology Commit- tee has been uploading documents to the database on a near-daily basis. Please check back frequently to see our growing inventory of forms, motions, briefs, ex- hibits, pleadings and many other types of documents in a wide variety of formats.
(And please contribute your own!) A searchable, comprehensive archive of
all past Trial Reporters is also in the works. MTLA also offers members a new online magazine, the Weekly B-L-A-S-T. The B-L-A-S-T reports Maryland trial lawyer news not found anywhere else, in- cluding profiles of members, candid viewpoints about judges’ rulings, and members’ experiences during trial. The B-L-A-S-T also provides synopses of new, reported cases of interest to trial lawyers, including direct links to the decisions so members can download them without leaving MTLA’s website. It also reports upcoming MTLA events and other news of interest to our members. The full ver- sion of the Weekly B-L-A-S-T is available on the website, and members with email addresses receive a shortened version via email. The email “teaser” contains a link to the site for easy access to the full ver- sion. Members can now visit the MTLA
Mall, where one can purchase items bear- ing MTLA’s logo and other MTLA products. The site also features an up-

dated page devoted to MTLA’s Affinity Partners, where members can click through to obtain discounts on vendors’ products and services. Also online are updated information pages about our board of governors, of- ficers, and committees, with “mailto” links so that members may contact their MTLA colleagues directly to ask a question, vol- unteer, or offer suggestions.
Our
membership contact page features contact forms to communicate with MTLA and its committees as well as to submit Press Releases or other documents by Members. Currently in the works is an upgraded, online deposition bank. At present the amount of information provided to those searching for a witness’ past depositions is limited. An improved database will al- low keyword and other searches, so that members can access all depositions from a certain case or all depositions involving a common issue. Soon online will also be creating a page
devoted to our Listserv, “MTLA Mem- ber Networking,” where members can link directly to our Listserv sponsor, TrialSmith (formerly DepoConnect), per- form searches, easily adjust user settings (such as vacation stops), find out about and apply to join other lists, review our entire archive of listserv messages (includ- ing file attachments), and peruse our Listserv’s Rules and FAQs. Also under construction is an online
web presentation, including photos and audio, to highlight the benefits of mem- bership in MTLA. Working together with the Membership Services Committee, we hope to turn this presentation into a trav- eling “road show” to introduce prospective members to the benefits of membership in MTLA, and educate folks about one of our most valuable assets – the website itself. Our site changes weekly. For more information, why not visit www.
