Future Olympian? Ten

year old Middle Park youngster Cassy Malyon
got more than she bargained for when she put on her new judo yellow belt at school assembly.
She was visited by paralympic mascot ‘Mandeville’ who congratulated her on her achievement.
Cassy was nominated by her classmates because her success was won
despite her disability. Cassy’s right leg was amputated below the knee when she was just five years old.
The school is part of the Olympic Get Set network, which learns about the Olympic values, in this case 'determination’.
Cassy finds it easier to compete without her prosthetic leg, and surprised her opponent one day by pausing to take it off mid-bout.
Deputy head teacher Donna Adkinson said: “We’re very proud of Cassy and she deserved this celebration.”
The mascot is named after Stoke Mandeville, the hospital in Buckingham where the paralympic sports movement was born.

at the Gordon primary school in Grangehill Road will have no excuse for not being in shape, thanks to a new trim trail in their playground.
Thanks to the generosity of local security firm Clearaway Services, wooden equipment to improve fitness, balance and co-ordination has been installed in the junior playground at a cost of £6,000
Local MP Clive Efford cut the ribbon on the new equipment at an opening ceremony attended by junior pupils, staff and parents.
Head Jason Taylor said: “The equipment will enhance the children’s fitness and enjoyment for years to come.”
Commercial director of Clearaway Jon Horwood said that buying the equipment was part of the company’s desire to put something back into the local community.
