MY SHOP
Yvonne Temple has recently opened her new shop in Smith Street providing inspiration for crafters as well as anyone looking for a lovely handmade gift.
Yvonne, tell me how it all started? i have always loved making things and been full of ideas, even making clothes for my dolls as a little girl. Anything creative i was into, just loved it! i gained a degree in Fashion & textiles having a great time developing new skills. i spent a few years teaching textiles at secondary school. when we moved home i decided to start my own business designing and making wedding dresses. this fitted in well with starting a family - i would take my son to Fashion Shows & wedding Fayres and hide him under the table in his Moses basket! when we moved back to Devon, my business aspirations were put on hold whilst i had two more children as well as being a foster Mum for ten years. As the children got older i gradually picked up my creative activities again, firstly working from home making and selling my own design products and then moving on to include jewellery making and a series of workshops. For the last year i have worked out of China blue in totnes so opening my own shop in Dartmouth really is the latest step in a dream come true! Why choose Dartmouth for your shop? Although i was born in Surrey i have always considered Devon to be my true home having lived here since i was 11. we live only a short way from Dartmouth at Moreleigh and my three of children have all attended what is now Dartmouth Academy giving me a strong connection to the town, which i want to develop by moving here now that the shop is open. Dartmouth is so vibrant and creative that i believe Made it and the town are made for each other! the response to the shop has been fantastic and word is getting round. All the time, i have people coming in saying they have been told they must come in and have a look! Describe your shop i have tried to provide a relaxing and inspiring environment at Made It stocking not only all the
Shop
Do you have time for any other interests? With a home, a business and children to keep track of, not a lot! i do love gardening though and a walk on the beach. wherever i go i may well see something which will be the idea for my next piece of jewellery. For me, work isn’t a hassle as i have creativity running through my core!
