“THE BRIGHT IDEA” Philips is sponsoring landscape architect, Tom Harfleet, who will be entering his garden design, The Bright Idea, in the Conceptual Garden category at this year’s Hampton Court Palace Flower show, July 5th – July 10th 2011. The ambitious project hopes to embody the human thought process replicating the brainwave of someone who is dreaming. A fine mesh tube will span the length of the garden and has a central spine covered in LEDs, which will pulse along the 27metre structure, reinforcing the wave theme.


THE END IN SIGHT A team of architecture and urban design students has beaten over 100 other entries from 24 countries across the globe to reach the final of an international urban design competition with their innovative plans for a re-vamp of Havant town centre. University of Portsmouth architecture students Leila Westrope and Richard Harrison, and urban design student Jim Collings, entered the ‘Art Urbain International Competition’ - a design competition for Masters level students. The three students conducted an urban analysis of Havant town centre, looking at the layout and buildings with a critical eye before coming up with ideas to rejuvenate the town and enhance existing elements.

Alila Villas Uluwatu wins accolade for super stylish concept


Alila Villas Uluwatu has been awarded a Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) international award for architectural excellence. One of just 13 international buildings selected, the all-villa resort on Bali’s Bukit peninsula is also the only hotel amongst the winners, described as a ‘star studded cast of imaginative and breathtaking buildings’.

Extending good hospitality


DLG Architects has completed a multi- million pound extension to create extra bedrooms and leisure facilities at the prestigious Rudding Park Hotel and Golf Club in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. DLG supervised a team of more than 100 over the last 16 months to deliver a stunning glass extension leading to 48 new bedrooms that include five suites and five spa rooms.
