Staying afloat with access control

Paxton’s Access Control Promotes Greener Business Practice at Canoe England. With the UK facing one of the worst droughts in fifty years this month, the need to conserve water is more important than ever. Paxton’s electronic access control system, Net2, has energy efficient features built in. This helps companies to save money on utility bills and promote a greener outlook.

Canoe England is a government run organisation that supports the

development of canoeing in England. In 2010, with help from the Carbon Trust and the Environment Agency, Canoe England’s latest site, Manver’s Waterfront and Boat Club opened its doors to water sports enthusiasts in Yorkshire. The club uses the Net2 access control system from Paxton control water usage ensure that its green credentials are sound. During the planning stages, club chairman, Chris Hawkesworth, was

looking for an access system that could manage security but also control other facilities inside the clubhouse. As a government funded building, making sure the boat club runs as economically as possible is paramount. Hot water for the showers, basins, kitchen and heating system is generated by a heat pump from the lake itself. The need to promote energy efficiency, stick to budget and save on expenses like water usage all has to be taken into consideration. With its energy saving capabilities, Paxton’s access control system seemed like the perfect solution. Chris says: “In the past we have often had problems keeping the

water usage to a minimum as people would leave the showers on. We needed a green solution that was vandal proof as well.” Chris called in Richard Muscroft, of Churchill Security, who specified

Paxton’s networked Net2 access control system to manage the club’s requirements. He says: “When Chris told me what shower system the club was using, I realised I could integrate with Net2 access control units to activate the showers. This meant that we could set a timer on the showers via the Net2 software, ensuring minimum water use and therefore the greenest possible solution. Of course, Net2 is also ideal for providing total security on the club’s doors.” Chris says: “A club like this has to keep its costs down to keep

going at all. Net2 is so easy to use. We’ve had no maintenance call outs and no emergencies. It has simply given us an economical, green security solution that’s ideal for this Canoe England site, or any sustainable building.” For further information visit www.paxton.co.uk
