Tanja Smith is an Associate Architectural Technologist with GRADONARCHITEC- TURE in the North East of England. She graduated in Architecture in Cape Town where a ‘do or die’ attitude was essential to surviving in the workplace due to the recession. Tanja’s career started in an electrical engi- neers drawing office where climbing poles to do work on transformers was part of the job. From there she moved to an Urban Design team where she was part of many exciting changes to the City of Cape Town. Part of this included re-housing people who lived in shanty- towns. She moved to the UK in 1999 and studied another degree in Architecture, achieving First Class Honours with two awards from CIAT and CIOB for excellence.
