| Letters | First Lady Thanks IHRSA, ACE
“I want to thank the American Council on Exercise and the International Health, Racquet, and Sports- club Association, and their CEOs … who are with us here today. Thank you guys, both, for your commitments … They got a call, and this request was put in, and they jumped on it … So, Joe (Moore) and Scott (Goudeseune), we’re truly grateful for this leadership.” —|
IHRSA Joining Forces Network launch

Anytime Fitness ‘Military Friendly’
> Anytime Fitness is very proud of the fact that we’ve been honored as a “Top 50 Military Friendly Franchise” by a number of organizations and periodicals over the past several years. We provide discounts for military personnel and their families. In fact, almost 20% of our franchise owners are military veterans. Virtually all of our clubs currently offer what we call “Hero” membership rates to military families and others, like police officers and firefighters. Many of our clubs will support the IHRSA Joining Forces Network, as well. —|
Chuck Runyon | President | Anytime Fitness | Hastings, MN Joining Forces for Our Troops
>Good job, IHRSA, for getting involved with First Lady Michelle Obama’s Joining Forces initiative. Last year, our Idaho National Guard received notice that they were going to be activated, and Apple Athletic Club offered their spouses and children a free membership. It was appreciated by the families who took advantage of the offer and extremely well received within the community. We also became involved with “Our Military Kids” to provide specific training classes for the Guard members’ children. God bless our troops and many thanks for all they do! —|
Ray Gordon |Membership Manager | Apple Athletic Club | Idaho Falls, ID SWEAT for a VET 2011
>We’d like to let CBI’s readers know about SWEAT for a VET 2011, our “all-cardio,” inclusive-fitness fundraising event, and

encourage clubs across the country and around the world to join us and host a live SWEAT-a-thon event at their own facilities. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, November 12, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., EST, with the main event location being the Tysons Sport and Health Club in McLean, Virginia. Money raised in the U.S. benefits our Wounded Warriors,
helping to provide equipment that will allow disabled veterans to continue their rehabilitation and expand their vocational options. Money raised outside the U.S. supports individuals with physical challenges by hosting training camps where they’ll learn to become group exercise instructors, and, subse- quently, be able to inspire club members and promote inclusive fitness worldwide. Funds will be distributed to those communities where money
is raised by clubs, so every club counts, and every club will see the results of their efforts locally! Clubs can offer one, two, or all three hours of the SWEAT-
a-thon “ride,” and don’t have to worry about registration or donation payments, since both are handled through our Website. Each individual event will be participating in, and following, the main event in McLean, seeing and hearing everything, connected via a live video link. The SWEAT-a-thon is a fun and unique program that allows
your members to do something good for themselves and, at the same time, do something good for others. Check out
www.SWEATforaVET.org for more information
and highlights from last year’s event, to become a sponsor, or make a donation. Register to participate in the event at
www.SWEATforaVET.kintera.org. Clubs interested in hosting their own SWEAT-a-thon can contact me directly at
