hen Les Mills International set the stage for its Ultimate Studio Search in January, it sought to discover the finest group-fitness studios in the world. In the process, the industry-wide competition shone a spotlight on the vital role that design can play in creating memorable—even magical—group-ex experiences. “We wanted to make the point that not every club has a sterile, intim-


idating group-ex environment,” explains Phillip Mills, Les Mills’ chief executive. “Many clubs go well beyond the traditional approach to create the engrossing theatre space a great studio can be.” The search is over, the votes are in, and the bar has been set.
