In these competitive times, how has ATRONIC coped with being able to maintain its investment in game design and development? As you’re aware, ATRONIC has been through some significant changes over its history, including changes in ownership. Until recently, the focus had been on expanding its geographic base, as opposed to developing its technological platform. Well, we’re now undergoing a significant and very positive change in our approach to technology. This year has marked ATRONIC’s renewed and reinvigorated approach to innovation – the rapid adapter/adopter approach that I previously outlined. You’re probably aware that operational integration with SPIELO is fully underway. This integration is the key to our new direction. SPIELO is the leader in the international government-sponsored VLT market, and they’ve been around for more than 20 years. SPIELO brings valuable expertise in a number of areas, including technology. So we’re beginning to see the benefits of ATRONIC and SPIELO’s combined knowledge, experience, and shared R&D resources. As well, we have the support of our parent company, Lottomatica. These strengths form the bedrock on which we’ll build our latest products, and form the foundation for our long- term growth.
Even though we immediately think of funding when we hear words like “resources” or “support,” budget is just one aspect behind successful innovation – and one might argue that it’s not the most important. There’s a terrific quote from Apple’s Steve Jobs that speaks to this. He once said, “Innovation has nothing to do with how many R&D dollars you have. When Apple came up with the Mac, IBM was spending at least 100 times more on R&D. It’s not about money. It’s about the people you have, how you’re led, and how much you get it.” SPIELO and ATRONIC combine great people, great leaders, and they work very hard to understand what our customers need. They get it.
