“Thanks to this experience I became more confident, which helped me when I went for interviews. I have been promoted twice since I started the programme.” Stanislava Vitkova, who achieved her Gold Award through her employer, Lloyds Banking Group

Charity partnerships

The impact of the DofE on the employability skills of young people is well recognised within the business community. We are working with leading organisations such as Business in the Community and the Confederation of British Industry, as well as being charity partner at numerous business awards.

In November, 23 young Lloyds employees took part in a thrilling DofE residential in Cornwall as part of their Gold DofE. This included sea-kayaking, jumping into the cold choppy sea and swimming to another point on the coastline. They also worked in teams to forage for food, cook and provide their own shelter. Steve Taylor – Lloyds Retail Training Relationship Manager who witnessed part of the week himself said, “We are delighted to give this opportunity to our potential future leaders”.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award was Charity Partner at the 2010 Personnel Today Awards and the raffle on the night raised almost £5,000 for our Charity.

Case study

Last year Tesco launched a ground breaking development programme designed for 16 to 18 year olds. The Tesco School Leavers Options is designed to offer young people who decided to leave school the opportunity to keep on training while earning a salary. Participants achieve a Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award as well as an NVQ level 3, learning all the technical and soft skills they need to fast track their career in retail.

“We feel that The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award represents an incredible opportunity to develop in our staff the skills and characteristics we as a company hold dear. The programme fosters teamwork, respect for others and confidence.” Natasha Adams,

UK Operations Personnel Director, Tesco The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award – Annual Review of 2010

Going the extra mile – a DofE partner since 2006, every year passionate cyclists pull together on the Aedas Cycle to Cannes and cycle 1,500km from London to Cannes to raise money for a range of charities. Last year the event raised £25,000 for the DofE.
