Women in Science and Technology Conference Hosted by the San Diego Chapter of the Association for Women in Science (AWIS- SD), the 10th biennial Women in Science and Technology (WIST) conference will feature two prominent women leaders as keynote speakers. The theme of this year’s conference is Embrace Change—Opportunities in the New Decade, which will focus on skills for overcoming challenges and embracing opportunities for all women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Peggy Johnson, executive vice president of Qualcomm and president of Global Market Development, and Cynthia (C.J.) Warner, chairman and president of Sapphire Energy, will present the keynote address- es. Both women have become inspirational leaders in tradition- ally male-dominated fields and

serve as role models for women in STEM. The WIST conference offers career and personal development workshops led

by local STEM leaders, as well as the opportunity to network with peers, develop new skills and explore career opportunities with more than 300 other attendees from the scientific community. Workshop topics include Fail Forward: Embracing Risk, Climbing the Academic Ladder and The Art of Negotiation, among others. AWIS is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to achieving equity and full

participation of women in science, mathematics, engineering and technology. As a part of the AWIS ongoing commitment to recognize and reward the achievements of local female students in STEM, scholarships are awarded annually to talented women at the community college, university undergraduate and graduate levels. The winners of the 2010-2011 AWIS scholarships will be recognized and presented with their awards at the WIST conference.

Cost: $50-175, depending on student status and membership. For more information, visit WIST2011.org.
