Rambling Through the Ranch

T

his year, the Rancho Santa Fe Gar- den Club has announced a twist on

its annual tradition of showcasing a few estate gardens to the public with a new theme, Rambling through the Ranch— Garden Tour and Open Air Market. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., May 7, at the Club. The new “tours by trolley” ap-

proach may become a tradition. “We realized that transportation from estate to estate was one of our toughest chal- lenges,” says President Helen DiZio. “We had feedback that told us people did not want their experience in each garden to be restricted to the schedule

of a big bus. Partnering with Old Town Trolley was an easy solution.” In order to promote an intimate experience, a limited number of guests will come and go to the estate gardens over a five-hour period at their leisure, hop- ping on and off the open-air trolleys that will run in a continuous loop. The tour will start and stop at the Garden Clubhouse, near the center of the village. “Each garden is only five minutes away from the next, so the ride will be fun and an en- joyable way to experience the natural botanical color of Rancho Santa Fe,” DiZio explains. Ample street parking will be available at the Garden Club, as well as at the nearby school. Visitors can enjoy the new Open Air Market on the Garden Club grounds,

advancement of gardening and land- scaping in the community of Rancho Santa Fe, the club has more than 300 members and serves the community through service, social and educa- tional programs.

There can be no other occupation like gardening in which, if you were to creep up behind someone at their work, you would find them smiling. —Mirabel Osler
