tainability in north central Oklahoma, owned by sisters Ann McFerron and Pat Hoerth, whose spiritual energy keeps the place humming. We loved being unplugged from cable television and high speed Internet.

O

During the day, Christopher learned how to make a composter, I learned how to build a raised bed garden and daughter Ila planted her first seeds. That night the moon shone big, bright and beautiful while the coyotes sang out in their evening chorus; whatever those rascals were up to, it sounded like they were laughing in concert with our own delight.

Oh my, we can’t help but also talk about the food —all of it was locally grown and raised, every dish prepared with pure whole ingredients. Our bodies thanked us for the nutrition, our spirits rejoiced in such nourishment for the soul. (The broccoli soup and fresh whole-grain bread topped with real Okla- homa butter were among my favorites.)

We stayed at the earth-friendly hermit- age lodging onsite and Ila hasn’t quit asking to go again to the “new house” at Turtle Rock. We loved the work- shops we attended and plan to return for their Earth Day event on April 22. Everyone is welcome to join in the hermitage dedication celebration, tour

the farm, visit the animals, walk the labyrinth and then share in a cookout and contra dance.

Many more fun things are going on

around town during April, including an intriguing selection of fun Earth Day events (see page 27). How refreshing it is to see so many people digging into household composting, worm farming and community gardening as we learn to take better care of our planet and ourselves. You all expand my innate love for Oklahoma like nothing else.

This year I hope you’ll make it a point to visit many of the wonderful places this great state has to offer. Take a look around and you’ll come up with a great bucket list!

Thanks for being on Oklahoma’s green team, Christopher builds the stand for our composter.
