VIBRATION Does the Body Good
by Elizabeth Daniels
Whole Body Vibration (WBV) has been around for over 40 years—and research shows that WBV provides effective results with a whole lot more than just weight loss. In a recent study completed in China and published in Aging Clini- cal and Experimental Research, it was demonstrated that WBV training on a pivotal, or side-to-side platform, led to a signifi cant increase in bone mineral density (BMD) at both the lumbar spine and the hips. These two

areas, along with the wrists, represent the most prevalent areas for declining BMD in both males and females. This study is among many others that have demonstrated the effi cacy of WBV training for the purposes of reducing the loss of or increasing bone density in individuals. The results come as no surprise to Oklahoma City chiropractor, Dr. Ash- leigh Muse of the Chiropractic Well- ness Clinic. Muse utilizes WBV at her practice, and is happy with the results. She says it is important, however, for patients to understand the difference between WBV therapy and training.

Whole Body Vibration used in medi- cal therapies and rehabilitation. WBV Therapy equipment is less powerful than WBV training equipment and is designed to be safe for use in a variety targeted clinical applications. WBV training is intended for use in exercise, strengthening, and athletic perfor- mance. WBV Training equipment is stronger and is designed to produce peak results in muscular development, strengthening, fl exibility, fi tness and athletic performance. The full spec- trum of WBV benefi ts will be greatest with training equipment as it allows the user to undergo the highest levels of gravitational force, producing maxi- mal results.
“Whole body vibration exercise
and therapy works our body from the inside out,” explains Muse. “Gentle vibration moving into and throughout the entire body is an effi cient, effective and safe way to stimulate muscles and bone cells, burn fat and lose weight, and restore neuromuscular balance.” In addition to helping increase
bone density in post-menopausal women, and people suffering from osteoporosis, Muse says another health benefi t of WBV is increased circulation and therefore increasing energy levels. Increasing circula- tion helps to remove the toxins from the tissues allowing for better health throughout the body. Pain and stiff- ness may also be alleviated by the decrease in toxins. As a fi tness routine, WBV helps
improve muscle strength by contract- ing the muscles 20 to 50 times per second, which in turn will also give positive cardio effects. For people with injuries, WBV can enhance rehabili- tation by increasing blood fl ow and oxygenation throughout the body. Research also shows that WBV helps with weight loss by making the
