Waters Run

quiet for her age…that is at first meeting. But getting to know her, it is quickly obvious that still waters run deep and she is a complex and interesting individual. Her poise is understandable given that she has been brought up among horse show people, almost since birth. When an interest in horses became evident early on, her mother Tracy made arrangements for lessons with Randy Durand’s New Haven Training Stable, located at Hansen Dam. Since she was only seven years old it was an educa- tion from the ground up and Randy made sure she knew, and did, all aspects of horse care. Riding lesson horses, her first appearance in the show ring was at the Memorial Day Horse Show in Los Angeles. Lead Line that year soon gave way to walk-trot classes


and then into the jumps. The famous small pony Bud- weiser was her first venture into ownership and that set the stage for a legendary long career on the ponies. At eight years old she stepped to the show ring in the Pony

hen meeting Olivia Esse for the first time it is easy to underestimate this young lady. She is a tiny little thing that is entirely too


Hunter Division and was Small Pony Champion on her wonderful Budweiser. The next year saw a trip to De- von where she took the coveted blue ribbon in the Small Pony Stake. By this time Silver Steps, Miss Australia and Hillcrest Blue Gemstone had joined the Esse family and the ever valuable “mileage” over the jumps was paying off big time. The following year, she added Medium Ponies to the


brood by acquiring Betty Boop, Razzle Dazzle, Believe in Magic and Longacre Hats Off. This was the year she ventured to the east coast for the first time where she won the Medium Pony Stake class at Capital Challenge riding Hats Off. By 2005 the family had added Large Ponies to their


stable of winners. The famous Newsworthy and Kasper. That year she showed all ponies at Indio and was Circuit Champion in the Small, Medium and Large Pony divi- sions. The year wrapped up with winning the Zone 10 Championships in all three divisions as well as the PCHA year end awards in the same three divisions. At age 11, she left the Pony Divisions and headed into
