PATRICK SEATON TRAINER SPOTLIGHT

Laughing and Working his Way Through Life

SB: Where were you born, how long did you live there? Then what, and when did you come to California? PS: I was born in the North of England in a place called Morpeth. We moved several times, finally settling in the lovely Oxfordshire countryside just outside of Oxford. At 18, I decided to take the prospect of a riding career seriously, I moved to Switzerland as I had been offered a great job. After twelve years there I was approached by Malcolm Pyrah about moving to California, which I’m glad I did.

SB: Tell us about your riding history. PS: After riding ponies all my childhood, I got my first professional job at 16 working and competing for a sales barn. Then, after moving to Switzerland I had the chance to compete in the top European shows and GP’s all over Europe.

SB: What is a typical day for you? PS: I ride a lot of horses at home. At shows I compete and train the horses and get to the ring for the riders and my friends. I love being at the ring when they get their chance at it. And, of course I really really like the horses but especially the people who are lucky enough to ride them. I always have a great time and laugh and joke a lot. Never a dull moment! Fun, fun, fun!

SB: What is the best part of the horse business? PS: To bring out the best in a horse, a rider and then both together. The very best part is to never stop learning your trade, improve improve! Turning your hobby into your career is as good as it can possibly get.

SB: What do you miss about home when

you are on the road? PS: My own bed, my new garden and a special someone...

SB: Does your family ride? PS: My Mum still rides and volunteers a lot for riding for the disabled. Both my sisters used to ride and compete, but not anymore. It’s really just me with this crazy love of the sport.

SB: Favorite foods? PS: Cheese fondue, Lamb chops & mint sauce, Indian food (spicier the better).

SB: Choice of music? PS: Haha everybody knows that one about me - Mariah Carey.

SB: Something about you that we don’t know but would find interesting. PS: I play the piano really well and enjoy it, and love to cook. Being in the kitchen is good for me, it is a change from the horse world and I love what I cook – so do my friends!! My friends are what keeps me very entertained, as do my clients. Believe me I attract all kinds of folks and they are all interesting cases! That is what makes each of them so special to me

SB: Special friends here. PS: That is hard to answer since I have so many close friends. But the ones who really know me best, and the ones I lean on are Toni & Colin McIntosh, Leslie Steele, Jessica Sullivan, Kristin Hardin, those would be the top five.

SB: Final thoughts here, what do you want for your future? PS: That is pretty easy to answer. …..to be the best me I can be. To be happy and content where I am and with what I have accomplished!! I’m getting there :)

Top to Bottom: Patrick Seaton: Patrick and Helen McNaught; Patrick set up; Patrick with Leslie Steele and Lenny Marconi; Patrick taking a break with his pets.
