Dear Readers, 2011 THE has officially kicked off and it came in like a lion! The circuits seem

MAGAZINE DEDICATED TO

HUNTERS AND

JUMPERS IN THE WEST

to be up and as trainers head off to Thermal, Northern California, Wellington, and those that stay close for LA, the year is already in full swing. The economic indicator for this year, in spite of the newspapers, seems to be moving in a good direction for the horse sport. Imports are happening again, with horses flying into the country on both coasts for riders from the west side of the country. Always a good sign as sales inside the states are ramping up also, that hopefully means it’s a thumbs up time for all of us! The banquets we went to in Vegas and San Francisco were all beautifully done and ShowBiz would like to give hats off to NorCal for their innovative approach to getting all their awards out. They present to 10th place and make each presentation fun. A congratulation to Bob Walker for being their NorCal Lifetime achievement recipient. A nicer guy cannot be found. Special accolades go to the Zone 10 Hunter Lifetime

Achievement winners. Betsy Glikbarg and Twinkle Gorman were wonderful to watch as they got their awards and all too standing ovations. Betsy is the first non rider/professional to receive that award and it is well deserved. For CPHA the Lifetime award was given to Bernie Traurig in recognition of all the years of success in our industry. A note of interest is the efforts by show manag-

ers to listen to the exhibitors and vendors at their shows. Surveys have gone out, as well as emails actually asking for input! While some people have been surprised, ShowBiz is not. The manager’s work hard, yes they make plenty of money, BUT unless you have walked in their steps you have no way to understand the amount of effort into putting on shows…and the amount of money needed up front. Thanks to west coast managers! Now on into the spring we will go, galloping at a fast pace. Seems time flies as we get “older” and although I don’t mind that process, it catches me up in

its speed sometimes. Enjoy the circuits, love your families, give your horses some extra carrots, hug your kids and be a good sport….ESPECIALLY when you

win!

Look for a new mobile office for ShowBiz in the near future. We love being at the shows and are excited about having an “office” on site.
